Brass and Bronze will take longer to develop the different colours but they will develop. You can reapply the patina if the colour hasn't developed enough. You should keep an eye on the piece as the colour changes and remove it when you have the colour that you want, then wash it off with clean plenty of warm water, if you are seeing more blue hues then the solution was left on for too long, simply remove the patina with very fine wire wool or abrasive paper and re-apply the solution. Once you have applied the patina solution to the required areas the patina will start to develop, first turning a burnt Orange colour on copper the reaction can happen very quickly, from a seconds to a couple of minutes once you have this colour pour off and collect the solution, it can be used again, or soak up all of the remaining solution rinse over with a little clean water and then allow it to dry naturally, the red / purple colour will appear as the piece dries, if you want more colour simply put the solution on those places that you want it.
